Sports Buddies 1st birthday

Our Active Socials, for people waiting for a buddy or matched pairs, have been running all year.  We’ve had lots of fun inclusive sports. We’d like to thank all our partners who’ve been kind offering us free sessions to us. Hove Croquet Club, Brighton Table Tennis Club, Active Badminton, Parable Dance, Sussex CC Inclusive cricket, Nam Yang Martial Arts. To say thanks to our volunteers, we had a veggie and beer night in Brighton where they were able to connect.

Our friends at Amex have been kind to offer us offer us free tickets to see Brighton & Hove Albion a few times and even getting us hospitality suite for some of our matched buddies.

On 7th July Sports Buddies will be one year old.  That was when Monica, our Sports Buddy Coordinator started working for us. We have had a really successful year -recruiting lots of volunteers from across Brighton and wider Sussex. Since our first match in Oct 21, we’ve 10 matched pairs in Brighton and Hove, 3 in East Sussex and 2 in West Sussex.

We reckon we’ll have 20 matches by the end of Summer. Our buddies do a range of exercise & sports: park run, walking football, table tennis, tennis, badminton, country & sea front walks, bouldering, kickboxing, dance, and basketball.

The Sports Buddies Advisory Group started in February with Sports Buddies Ambassador Sas and 4 participants. Luke came up with a great name – Sports R Us. In April the group designed Top Tips for Staying Healthy: walking, sea swimming, more fruit- less burgers, table tennis, good sleep, playing football, drinking water, yoga and going to the gym.
