Shannara has been a Gig Buddy for 5 years and here he tells his story about the other things he is now involved with in the charity.
I became an ambassador, we do zoom meetings and organise events and a conference, we had to do that on zoom because of Covid.
As an Ambassador I help spread the word about Stay Up Late, Gig Buddies and Sports buddies.
I have been canvassing with leaflets and been to Martlets, the Co-op, Lewes New Look, EE and O2, to tell them about the Stay Up late charity and ask them to tell their people in their newsletters, so we spread the word and maybe get some new volunteers.
This is important because not enough people know about our great work and this way more people will know about us and support what we do.
I am also a volunteer at the Hove Public Living Room, We are opening again the 2nd Wednesday of the month 4-6pm at Hove Methodist church. I’ve been volunteering since the start and been involved in giving out flyers, asking people what they want and putting out the equipment and putting away, I also do the music and generally help out, I visited the Hastings Living Room, its been fun and I enjoy being a volunteer with the others.
I’ve been with my great gig buddy Steve for 5 years in August, we have been to gigs together but also bowling and the cinema. Next we are going to War Of the Worlds at Brighton centre.
