Gig Buddies take over the Russell Howard’s Good News Show!

Was that you I saw on the telly? – YES IT WAS!

Once again Gig Buddies went International, this week, on the Russell Howard’s Good News Show. Sky 1 approached the team a few weeks ago to ask if we would like to be featured on Russell Howard’s Good News Show. Here at Gig Buddies we love being in the spot light and so jumped at the chance to be on the TV!

The film crew came up from London and filmed lots of Gig Buddies during our Mik Artistiks fundraising gig in Brighton. The fun that Gig Buddies have together shone through and the film crew were able to film some great moments. Hours of footage was recorded but not all of it  was shown – such as one volunteer, Kittie, asking if her gig buddy would be her best man on her wedding day! He said YES.

Gig Buddies have been lucky enough to receive lots of national press this year, including from Radio 4 and the Huffington Post! But what can you expect when there are so many fabulous buddies spreading the simple message of inclusion and fun?

Russell Howard gave Gig Buddies another platform to speak about  the project and the Stay Up Late campaign,  which is especially important at this time of the year. At Christmas time the impact of inflexible care rotas and support systems on people with learning disabilities offers a stark contrast to the otherwise festive feeling that most people have. However, as the year draws to a close, we have nearly 100 matched and regularly budding pairs on the project. This mixed with more brilliant news coverage, amazing volunteers, new partners and a few glasses of mulled wine it has got us excited about what is to come next year.

Next year you can expect more Gig Buddy partners, more Gig Buddy pairs, heaps of fun, miles of dancing and best of all – more campaigning about inclusion, equality and fun!
