Paul and Lee’s Status Quo Review

PAUL AND LEE REVIEW STATUS QUO

The first Gig Buddies meeting they had, Lee surpassed all Paul’s expectations when he got them tickets to see Status Quo there and then! A few weeks later and they were ready to enjoy their first gig together. It looks like they had a great time and even wrote a review!

Here is their fantastic review.

Firstly, an admission as we are both massive Quo fans!  They were the first band that Lee saw live when he was just 13 and Paul has been to see them a whopping 27 times!!  So we are slightly biased!

This was our very first gig together since being matched so what better way to start than going to see the mighty Quo!!

First up though in support was Shakin Stevens!  Both of us remember Shakey from our childhoods – but sadly Shakey’s voice and performance was a bit ‘shakey’, so although we both thought it was nice to see him (especially as he did a very Christmasy version of ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’) but not someone we would rush back to see again!

After Shakey, the mighty Quo came on!

Starting with the Quo Anthem ‘Caroline’ it got better and better – Until they started playing new stuff (see Twenty Wild Horses!) which Lee doesn’t like as he thinks everything after the album ‘Just Supposin’ is not great!!  However Paul absolutely loved every single track they played!

Although sadly 2 of the original Quo band have died recently, and the original drummer left the band some time ago, Francis Rossi was his usual energetic self and along with the rest of the band played every song with all their hearts!

After the gig Paul and Lee sat down and gave their opinion of the show!

Paul: In The Army Now

Lee: Garundula

Paul: None

Lee: In The Army Now (and all the other songs after the album Just Supposin!)

Paul: Like their music.  Makes me happy.  Love heavy rock!

Lee: I love their music – reminds me of happy memories!

Paul: Rollin Home

Lee: Forty-Five Hundred Times

Paul & Lee: Yes definitely!! (Paul would like to see them 500 times more!!)

Paul & Lee: Rick Parfitt, who sadly died in 2016.

Dirty DC (AC/DC tribute band) at The Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth on 20th January 2023 – so we are starting our Gig Buddies Year with a Heavy Rock ‘Bang’!!
